You’ve booked the best, your members are excited, and the event is sold out… what can go wrong?!?
The number one thing I experience as a performer for private clubs and corporate events is the lack of quality sound and lighting. It’s come to the point where I now travel with 15 pounds of sound equipment just to make sure I working sound!
I’ve discussed this topic in the past, even including an article detailing where to buy the stuff – but this is so important I wanted to discuss it again.
If you are hosting an event, no matter how big or small, PLEASE – get a good speaker and microphone system. Your knockoff brand system is going to create a muffled sound. Your old outdoor speaker is going to create feedback and weird noises. It’s all anyone will hear and it will ruin your hard planned event.
And lighting. PLEASE – make sure your entertainment is lit. Buy a few small spot lights on stands. Find a place in the room with directional lighting. Just because your club has a stage area, doesn’t mean you have to use that spot. Light the performance area so your members and guests can see the act.
I know this sounds a bit like a rant but I really care about the experience of my audience. If they can’t see or hear me, it doesn’t matter what I’m doing, they will lose interest quickly.
