Member events are important. They create a greater connection to the club, increase membership sales, drive retention rates, and give your members a reason to come other than sports or dining!
Most clubs have their legacy events. Daddy Daughter Dance, Golf Contests, Lobster Night, and the annual Gala – but there are other events that will give your members incredible experiences and it’s important to try them.
I’ve previously written about tips for creating a great event. This article is actually about event ideas.
I’ve split up the options between big events which are those that will require an investment and low-risk events which are low to no cost for the club.
Take a risk… try something new, and your members will say thank you!
Big Risk Big Rewards
Winter Carnival – games, rides, and funnel cakes. Create a midway on your course and invite your members for a night of outrageous fun.
The Mentalist – It wouldn’t be a list of great ideas without a shameless plug for myself.
The Big Show – Consider a magician, singer, cover band, or nationally known speaker for a night of entertainment. You’ll be surprised how many people will show up when the event is unique with a known performer. With regards to comedians – there are some that specialize in the club space but be wary of anyone who doesn’t have clubs on their resume… you don’t want to offend!
Rodeo Night – Bales of hay, gingham tablecloths, a huge BBQ pit, and the mechanical bull. Your members will get their boots and hats and have a fantastic time at the ho-down!
Dueling Piano – Members love this phenomenal night of entertainment as dueling piano players create a fun sing-a-long with non-stop laughter and smiles.
Yummy events – Food is always a great draw so consider a Dessert-a-palooza extravaganza, make your own pizza night, or a food truck event.
Low Risk
Interesting Classes with a takeaway – Lock picking, wine blending, cigar rolling, or cheese board making are all classes that will draw a crowd. The important thing is that the members have something to take with them so they can recreate the lessons back home!
Open Mic Night – Your members will love a chance to shine in the spotlight as they test out new material. This is a risky one that can have hilarious moments!
Karaoke Showdown – Invite your members to a night of drinking and singing at your club’s Karaoke Showdown competition. Offer prizes for things like Most Off-Key, Loudest, and Most Impressive
Drive-in Movie Night – pull up the golf cart so your members can watch a movie on a big screen set up outside. Offer popcorn and concessions.
Ice Cream Social – a 1950’s ice cream social is a fun way to offer a themed event. If you have the budget hire a band to play music!
