Every week I fly across the nation to perform at a club or corporate event. Members and attendees are often surprised that I’m there just for their show. “You flew all the way from Los Angeles just for us… wow!” is the usually response! “Yes I did… and you deserve it” is always my response!
Exclusive experiences and opportunities are key to member and attendee satisfaction. Your members joined your club or association to gain access to things that only come with membership. Additionally, in our “social media” world, members want to be able to humbly brag about their fabulous live via their curated feeds.
There’s also a subconscious reason why exclusive events are valued by members. People like to feel special and being part of a group that gives you incredible experiences no one else gets makes you feel really special and proud to be in that group. It’s that little part – “that no one else gets” that is really the most important. Your exclusive events must be inaccessible to the outside world. That means they can’t get it anywhere else except their club or event.
A great example of this theory is Disney’s exclusive Club 33. Nearly impossible to get into, the members of that club get special “members only” events at the park. They are the envy of every Disney guest and the members post their magnificent experiences for all to see. Your club may have the same experience. The Magic Castle has many member only nights where events ranging from exclusive lectures to jazz concerts no only give members a unique experience, but also a chance to post their experience to their followers.
One more thing. The idea of “flying in” an act is actually important. It shows that expense, time, and energy were spent to give them a unique experience – all things necessary to give someone the feeling that yes, this is special.
So, as you prepare for upcoming events, please consider creating an extraordinary experience for your members and attendees. Make it something they can’t anywhere else. Think above decorations or theme, think about the unique opportunity. From shows and lessons, to personalities – give your members and attendees a real one of a kind experience!
